Student Connor Colebrook to Represent Riverside College in UK Skills Competition for Plumbing
Plumbing student, Connor Colebrook from Widnes, is celebrating after beating thirty other competitors in the qualifying round to represent Riverside College in the UK Skills competitions for plumbing.
The competition involved designing a pipe frame and was judged on accuracy, joint quality, competence with tools, materials chosen for the build and safety. For winning the competition, Connor received a plumbing toolbox with a value of £50. The prize provides Connor with the tools to further his skills and work towards a successful career in the plumbing industry.
Connor will now represent Riverside College in future UK Skills competitions and will face winning students from other colleges in the local area. If successful, Connor will then have the opportunity to test his skills on a national level.
Connor said “I’m really enjoying the course and the tutors have taught me a lot. We have fun while learning and my skills have come a long way since starting. At first I wasn’t sure what career I wanted to follow but the course has really given me focus, I now definitely want to be a plumber. I’m looking forward to the next competition.”
Plumbing tutor Paul Bird said, “All of the students who participated performed very well but Connor really stood out. He worked in a professional manner, was helpful to others and he chose recycled materials; the accuracy in his work was outstanding. He will be a great representative for Riverside and I’m sure he will do well.”
