Stand up comedy for Riverside students
Drama students from Riverside College Runcorn Campus, take part in a stand –up comic technique workshop.
To kick off the practical exploration of comedy the students took part in a workshop by local theatre practitioner and former stand-up Gav Cross. Gav is a creative arts practitioner with over 20 years experience. He has used his performing arts skills as a teacher, writer, actor, director, stand-up and compere.
Gav’s workshop focused particularly on the skills and practices of character comedians, introducing the students to performers such as Morwenna Banks, Felix Dexter, Peter Cook, Laura Solon and many others.
The students involved have been inspired to create comic characters and sketches of their own, and will now be using the skills they have observed, and explored, to develop original material for a performance next month.
Gav, a vivacious and slightly eccentric personality, said “This is the second time I have worked with Riverside College students and it has been a real joy. The drama students here are focused, funny and intelligent. Their tutors have built a really creative atmosphere where students are able to experiment with so many different styles of performance.”
