Make up students help to set world record with The Very Big Catwalk
Sixty talented students from the Hair and Media Makeup course at Riverside College have supported tutor, Ruth Marcella and her company Orchid Blush as the makeup artists for The Very Big Catwalk which took place at the Pier Head, Liverpool at the weekend.
Ruth was the Chief Makeup Artist at the huge event, which was organised by the Liverpool Culture Company planned to break the Guinness World Record by having the most models ever on a catwalk.
The Riverside students were split into two teams and not only had the opportunity to show off their creative talents with editorial, catwalk, fashion and body art make up but they also got to take part in the world record attempt by walking on the catwalk themselves.
The successful catwalk show not only managed to break the world record but also gave the students a great experience and opportunity to test their skills in a real life, high pressure, working environment.
Ruth, who teaches at the College also owns her own successful hair and makeup company, Orchid Blush and has recently employed eight students from the College to work alongside her existing team of professional hair and makeup artists. She said, “All of the students were extremely professional during the day. They were a credit to themselves and the College and all worked to an extremely high standard. It was a brilliant day and an incredible opportunity for the students to put all of the skills they have learnt in the classroom to test.
“The day ended with the students walking on the catwalk themselves after doing the makeup for the finale and models wearing the clothes especially designed for the event by Liverpool born designer to the stars, Philip Armstrong.”
