Meet Our Students: Zak Pearson
Why did you decide to do a Sports Degree?
I decided to do the Degree in Sport after a couple of years of working in primary schools as an activity professional teaching PE. I also worked in a special working a 1:1 and a teaching assistant. I realised I wanted a career as a teacher and I needed a degree to get onto a teaching training course and complete a PGCE.
How will this qualification help your future?
This qualification will allow me to complete my PGCE, which will allow to reach my career aspiration of becoming a teacher.
What was the support like when you returned to education?
I was apprehensive prior to starting the course, but the tutors and staff made it easy to transition back into education. The support I’ve received has been great and all the staff have been excellent.
How did you find balancing your qualification with work, family life and other commitments?
I found balancing my course work load and days in college with my job very easy. I work part time in a special school which has allowed me to gain more experience and earn extra money. With the course only being 2 and a half days a week, I’ve worked 2 days in my job and have always been on top of my work for the course.
What advice do you have for anyone considering enrolling on a Higher Education qualification?
I would definitely recommend enrolling on a higher education course, as it can improve your career and where you want to go in the future. The staff and smaller classes offer more support and a better standard of education in my opinion.
