The world’s largest cruise company favour Riverside students as employees
Steiner, the worlds largest cruise company, recently chose to hold their hair, beauty and spa therapy recruitment event at Riverside College. They chose the College as their venue in honour of the high quality employees they have recruited from the college over recent years.
Alison Vickery, Recruitment Manager at Steiner said, “Riverside College trains students to be employable”.
Riverside College students were once again highly successful college at the event, which involved applicants from right across the country. Six Riverside students were offered employment with the company on the day and two actually fly out on the 16th June to join their cruise ship as it sails around the Caribbean.
Laura Bond from Runcorn, was previously a student of Frodsham High School. She will be practicing as a hairdresser on board, after completing her Level 3 Hairdressing course at Riverside this summer. Laura said, “I chose Riverside because it is one of the most successful Colleges at getting students jobs with cruise liners. The courses at Riverside really prepare you for work and I think that is why Steiner look so highly upon them.
“Our tutors have been fantastic in supporting us with extra workshops to give us the best chance to be successful in the recruitment process. Working on the cruise ships will be a really amazing experience and is what I have always wanted to do. I can’t wait to travel the world doing what I love.”
The tutor in charge of bringing Steiner to Riverside College is Sarah Fillaudeau, Programme Area Leader for Complementary Therapies at the college. Sarah’s previous experience includes being a Spa & Hairdressing Salon Manager on board one of the worlds biggest cruise ships, and managing a large international spa in Bermuda.
Sarah said, “It is an honour to host such a prestigious recruitment event, we are delighted that Steiner have chosen not only the College as a venue for their event, but our students as their employees.
“We work extremely hard to ensure our students get the best possible training and work experience here at the College spa. We are always looking to the latest advances in therapies whilst ensuring our students are fully trained in other important aspects of working in a prestigious spa such as customer service.”
There are still a few places remaining on Riverside College’s Hair, Beauty, Complementary Therapy and Media Makeup courses for this September. Go to www.riversidecollege.ac.uk to apply.
