What is this course about?
This qualification is designed to develop your practical skills for a rewarding career as a nail technician but also gives you the opportunity to gain skills in beauty therapy including lash and brow treatments. Through demonstrations and practical experience, working on clients in the college industry salons, you will learn the various techniques of manicure, pedicure, nail enhancement, gel polish, and nail art services. Your practical skills will be combined with the study of anatomy and physiology and customer care.

What will I learn on this course?
On this course you will learn all the techniques and skills that you require to have a successful career in the beauty and nail industry, including Health and safety, promotion of services and products, a variety of spa manicure and pedicure techniques, applying and maintaining nail enhancements, nail art services, gel polish skills, facials, makeup techniques and lash and brow treatments. As part of this course you will be also required to work on English and Maths as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to higher education
Entry requirements:
A minimum of 4 GCSE’s 9 – 3 including English Language and Maths, or by progression from Level 1 Beauty Therapy or relevant salon experience.
What will this course lead on to?
Career opportunities on cruise ships with Steiner, Nail bars, Spas, Beauty Salons or progression onto the level 3 Advanced Nail Technician qualification.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by on-going practical assessments throughout the programme You will be tested on your theoretical understanding, by written assignments or online testing.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will require a uniform and kit, the Centre of Excellence in Beauty, Hair, Media Makeup and Nails aims to provide all school leavers with a tunic and basic kit when you start your course. You will receive more information at your interview. (This is subject to funding and will be confirmed at enrolment in August.)
You will also be required to wear full-length black trousers and black coloured shoes (eg. ballet pumps). You will also provide files etc for your coursework and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments.
You will be required to purchase an artificial nails kit in December (cost approx. £140, TBC for September).
There is a payment scheme available to help with the purchase of the artificial nail kit which will be required for the second term in college.
Facilities:
At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have recently refurbished contemporary facilities, including a nail salon, three hairdressing salons, two beauty salons and two media make up studios. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
