What is this course about?
This course is designed for those who wish to learn the art of Hairdressing. It may be your dream to be a celebrity stylist flying between Milan and New York, to build your own business or work in your local salon, whatever your direction Level 2 Hairdressing is the course that will prepare you for employment within this exciting industry. You will develop your creative skills in a variety of cutting techniques, styling, plaiting and twisting long hair. You will also start to develop skills in colouring and perming. You will be able to work on clients and practice your techniques in our industry standard salons.

Entry Requirements
You will require 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 4 including English Language and a 3 in Maths.
What will this course lead on to?
Progression onto the Level 3 Hairdressing qualification or employment as a junior stylist within a salon.
What will I learn on this course?
On this professional hairdressing course, you will learn; Shampooing and conditioning treatments, a variety of cutting techniques for long and short hair, barbering skills, and the art of dressing hair. You will also be introduced to hair colouring techniques from basic root application to specialist foil work. As part of this course, you will also be required to work on English and Maths and complete an industry placement, as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to Higher Education.
Enrichment Opportunities:
A wide range of enrichment opportunities are available to you including Duke of Edinburgh Award, Driving Test Theory, workshops from major product manufacturers, trips and visits to competition, events, hair & beauty fairs, opportunities to join the competition or artistic team, a wide range of industry workshops, e.g., creative colouring and bridal hair workshops.
How will I be assessed?
Your practical skills will be assessed through observations of your work. You will also be assessed on your theory knowledge throughout the year, through assignment work and online testing.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will require a uniform and kit, the Centre of Excellence in Beauty, Hair, Media Makeup and Nails aims to provide all school leavers with a tunic and basic kit when you start your course. You will receive more information at your interview. (This is subject to funding and will be confirmed at enrolment in August.)
You will also be required to wear full-length black trousers and black coloured shoes (eg. ballet pumps). You will also provide files etc for your coursework and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments.
Facilities:
At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have recently refurbished contemporary facilities, including three hairdressing salons, two beauty salons, two media make up studios and a nail studio. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
