What is this course about?
This is an introductory programme that is designed to give you all the skills and knowledge required to learn the basic beauty therapy treatments and services delivered within the professional beauty industry. You will work in our College Beauty salons developing your skills in makeup, skincare, nails services and nail art. You will also take part in photo shoots and fashion shows.

Entry Requirements:
You require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 2 including English Language and Maths.
Beauty is a personal service; people skills and personal presentation is also important.
What will this course lead on to?
Progression onto a Level 2 programme, employment as an assistant in a beauty salon.
What will I learn on this course?
You will learn all aspects of beauty therapy including professional nail treatments, manicure and pedicure, nail art services, a variety of makeup techniques, skin care and facials and themed face painting. You will bring all of your beauty techniques together to create a beauty image on a model for a photo shoot. As part of this course, you will be also required to work on English and Maths and complete an industry placement, as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to higher education.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by ongoing assessments throughout the programme, tests may be required to complete units. You will have to complete projects and produce a portfolio of your work.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will require a uniform and kit, the Centre of Excellence in Beauty, Hair, Media Makeup and Nails aims to provide all school leavers with a tunic and basic kit when you start your course. You will receive more information at your interview. (This is subject to funding and will be confirmed at enrolment in August.)
You will also be required to wear full-length black trousers and black coloured shoes (eg. ballet pumps). You will also provide files etc for your coursework and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments.
Facilities:
At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have recently refurbished contemporary facilities, including three hairdressing salons, three beauty salons, two media make up studios and a nail salon. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
