What is this course about?
This qualification is a great introduction to the art of men’s styling. You will learn and develop your practical skills in the creative art of men’s hairdressing. You will earn how to use professional products and tools which will help you develop skills in barbering. This course is a mandatory requirement for progression onto the Stage 2 Certificate in Barbering Techniques course unless you already hold a relevant hairdressing qualification.

Entry Requirements
Working at E3 in English on our college assessment or GCSE minimum grade GCSE grade E/2 or Entry Level 3 English qualification (including reading and writing). To progress onto the Stage 2 Certificate in Barbering Techniques, you will be required to be working at a level 1 on our English assessment or GCSE D/3 or Level 1 English qualification (including reading and writing).

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout your course by practical observation and your theoretical understanding will be assessed through the completion of an assignment. You will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence which will require photographic evidence.
*Please note: You may be required to attend an assessment day/evening if you are selected by the awarding body, external verifier – failure to attend could lead to your certificate being withheld until you are seen be the external verifier

You will have to follow the correct dress code for the professional environment, and you will have the option to purchase a tunic, approximately £25.00 (plus postage and packing) – costs TBC. You must also wear full length black trousers and a full black shoe. You will have to provide files etc. for your course work and photographic evidence may be required for practical assessments and a kit is required to complete the course.
What will this course lead on to?
On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress onto the Stage 2 Certificate in Barbering Techniques course, where you will learn more advanced barbering, cutting techniques and clipper work. You may wish to seek employment in a barbershop, hairdressers or become self-employed.
