What is this course about?
The course will cover the following topics: Complex hot and cold-water systems. Sanitation, Central Heating and Gas Installation. You will install and commission systems. You will fit systems in a workshop setting and then check that operate correctly and efficiently. You will learn to fault find and diagnose system faults. There is an amount of electrical knowledge required to complete the course at Level 3. Studies include the relevant legislation including, gas, electrical, building regulations. You will also study the codes of practice that must be adhered by people working within the industry.

Entry Requirements:
GCSE grade D/3 in maths and English or Level 1 Functional Skills in maths and English OR achieving Level 1 in maths and English on our college assessment.
What will I learn on this course?
The learner will learn about different types of plumbing systems including cold, hot, central heating, sanitation and drainage. The learner will learn to plan and design these systems. The learner will also learn how these systems should be set up to run properly, efficiently and safely. The learner will work on these systems in the workshop and test areas. This will be supplemented with classroom based activities that study the theoretical aspects. Work in class includes written assignments and on line exams that must be completed successfully to qualify.
How will I be assessed?
Practical assessment is carried out on a regular basis throughout the course. They have to be completed to a standard set by City and Guilds. Each assessment is marked and feedback is given to the learner at the time. At the end of the course each learner has completed a written record of their achievements that contains the details and evidence of the practical tasks that they have completed. There are also written exams that have to be passed which are completed at the end of each training module. The learner must pass these exams to qualify.
What will this course lead on to?
The course is designed as an advanced level that will teach the skills and processes required to pursue a career in plumbing as an apprentice or trainee plumber.

You will work in newly built workshops and modern classrooms with excellent IT facilities. The workshops have installation bays and assessment equipment in line with City and Guilds standards for you to use daily on your training and assessment. You will have the opportunity to use modern state of the art tools, facilities and instruction to develop your practical skills.
