What is this course about?
In this hairdressing and beauty studies pathway qualification, this course covers all the technical skills and essential knowledge to help start you career as a makeup artist. The areas you will study will provide you with all the makeup techniques required to perform a variety of professional media, fashion and catwalk looks. You will also develop your hairdressing skills to complement your makeup designs.

Entry Requirements:
A minimum of 4 GCSE 9 – 3 grades including English Language and Maths.
What will this course lead on to?
You can progress onto the Level 3 Theatrical, Fashion & Special Effects Make-up course or employment within the industry, working for cosmetic fashion houses or working as a makeup artist in a salon or work as a freelance makeup artist.
What will I learn on this course?
You will learn both the practical and theory elements in all aspects of makeup including: the application of creative, fashion and photographic makeups, an introduction to the foundations of special effects, body art design, lash & brow treatment, individual lash application, the art of dressing short and long hair, basic hair colouring techniques and creating a fashion image based on a theme
As part of this course, you will also be required to work on English and Maths and complete an industry placement, if in age group 16-18 as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to higher education.

How will I be assessed?
Your practical skills will be assessed through observations by your tutors. You will also be assessed on your theory knowledge throughout the year, by written assignments and online testing.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will require a uniform and kit, the Centre of Excellence in Beauty, Hair, Media Makeup and Nails aims to provide all school leavers with a tunic and basic kit when you start your course. You will receive more information at your interview. (This is subject to funding and will be confirmed at enrolment in August.)
You will also be required to wear full-length black trousers and black coloured shoes (eg. ballet pumps). You will also provide files etc for your coursework and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments.
Facilities:
At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have refurbished contemporary facilities, including three hairdressing salons, two beauty salons, two media make up studios and a nail salon. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
