What is this course about?
This course is an introduction to the motor vehicle industry. It is ideal for students who have a keen interest in learning about the maintenance of vehicles and machinery used in the automotive sector. You will develop knowledge and skills in a mainly practical setting, studying modules including, Engine Operation and Components, Tools, Equipment and Consumable Materials for Vehicle Maintenance, Wheel and Tyre Construction, and Vehicle Electrical Circuits and Components.

Entry Requirements

What will this course lead on to?
On successful completion of this course you could progress to the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles or an apprenticeship. You could also progress to employment as a fast fit operator or junior mechanic.
What will I learn on this course?
You will learn how to work safely and competently in a motor vehicle workshop environment and develop practical skills in areas such as engine technology, transmission systems, electrical principles and basic engineering principles. You will also have tutorial sessions which will involve 1 to 1 discussions with your personal tutor to monitor your progress and support you during your course.

You will have the opportunity to take part in a range of enrichment activities such as 5 a side football, model car racing, practical projects together with educational trips and visits.
How will I be assessed?
You will produce an E-Portfolio of evidence that you will record your practical tasks and assignments. You will also complete a series of on-line tests.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
Learners will be expected to purchase a recommended course book, and provide their own safety footwear and overalls. You will also need a ring binder and dividers to organise your course work, plastic wallets for assignments, ruler, pens, pencils and an eraser.
