Course Details
This course is of interest to those who wish to improve their skills in English and gain a new qualification, as well as to those who wish to improve their grade having already taken this qualification.
Many employers require GCSE English as a qualification before your application can be considered, particularly in the public sector. It is the nationally recognised qualification at Level 2 in professions such as the Police Force, the Fire Service, Nursing, Local Government, Social Work and Teaching. All teachers are required to have a Level 2 qualification in English and in Maths. Universities also require these qualifications as they are mandatory for Higher Education courses.
What will I learn on this course?
You will cover all aspects of English skills required to achieve GCSE English such as: essay writing skills using different formats, language analysis, inferred meaning, communication skills as well as spelling, punctuation and grammar.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed with your progress throughout the course and the GCSE English exam will be taken at the end of the course.
What are the entry requirements?
A recent grade D/3 at GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills English. If you do not meet these entry requirements, you can complete an online assessment in college to ensure you are working at Level 2.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
This course is FREE. (For GCSE qualifications if you already have a grade C/4 and achieved it within the last 5 years but wish to improve your grade then fees will apply. Please enquire for details of fees).
