What is this course about?
eSports is a rapidly growing industry within the UK and is currently worth an estimated £1.5billion to the global economy and a global audience estimated at 530 million. This course is great for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the internet, it focuses on the industry and the business of internet companies. During this course, you will study modules including Computer Networking, Video Production, Games Design, Business of Social Media, Producing a Brand, Launching an enterprise, eSport Coaching.
What will I learn on this course?
Over the two years, you will develop skills supporting development in problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills, as well as self-management and development. The course is assessed through coursework projects and you will study a range of different topics including eSports Skills, Strategies and Analysis, Video Production, Producing an eSports brand, and Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the eSports Industry.
Entry requirements:
You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9 – 4 including English and Maths.
What will this course lead on to?
By completing this qualification, you will put yourself in an excellent position to advance to a related higher education course at university our continue to study with us on our HND Computing and BSc Computer Science top-up degree. You could also progress on to study topics such as Events Management and Media or enter the workplace in a range of different roles varying from eSports player to Video Production Editor and Data Analyst.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed using a variety of assessment methods. For internally assessed work, themes will be used for assignment briefs to cover the assessment criteria for a range of units; these may include written reports, presentations, working in groups, and creating products.
Enrichment Opportunities:
If you like to play computer games we have a great enrichment opportunity with our eSports club. Riverside College has multiple teams playing in the British eSports Championships. Our students also enhance their studies by taking part in different trips including EGX – UK’s largest computer game convention, National Media Museum, and Bletchley Park – the home of the codebreakers. We also organise international trips with our most recent one being to Disneyland Paris for Computing Live!
Any additional costs?
Standard course materials such as pens, pencil, and paper will be needed. All students will have their own OneDrive cloud storage that will allow them to access work outside of the classroom. We use the most current software used in industry, but we ensure students will have access to this for free when working from home. You will be required to pay for trips and visits.
