Course Details:
This qualification aims explores mental health in relation to children and young people. It explores the factors and concepts relating to mental health. It is designed for learners who wish to develop an understanding of mental health and how to support children and young people. It is useful for learners who provide direct support and those working in sectors such as:
- Healthcare
- Social care
- Leisure
- Entertainment
- Education and training
- Nursing
What will I learn on this course?
There is an introduction to mental health. Learners will also look at common misconceptions associated with mental health and issues that can co-occur
It will also cover using a person-centred approach to support individuals with mental health conditions incorporating the preferences and needs of the individual. Learners will also look at legislation and guidance, and the support networks available to individuals and their families
In addition, learners will cover the effects that mental health conditions can have on other family members. It also covers a variety of methods and strategies that can be used to support both the individual and other family members.
In addition, learners will cover the potential delays and difficulties in speech and language.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed with your progress throughout the course and will build a portfolio of assignments/workbooks which will be assessed at the end of the course.
What are the entry requirements?
Working at Level 1 in English on our college assessment or a minimum GCSE grade D/3 or Level 1 English qualification.
