Course Overview/What is this course about?
You will learn all aspects of bakery and patisserie whilst studying for your qualification this will include both practical classes and academic theory sessions. You will learn the knowledge and practical skills in all aspects of bakery including Pastries, Tarts and Pies, Breads and Dough, Desserts and Puddings, Cakes, Biscuits and Sponges. By choosing this course you will be able to gain valuable knowledge and skills which will enable you to start a career either in a Bakery or as a Patisserie Chef

Entry Requirements:
As an adult learner you will require a good level of English and maths. You will require a grade 3(D) or above in English and maths. If you cannot provide your GCSE results, an English and maths assessment is available at the college.
What will I learn on this course?
You will develop an awareness of health and safety relating to preparation of food whilst learning different methods of bakery and patisserie.
How will I learn and be assessed?
Through both practical observations of your work in the kitchens and short theory tests.
You may be required to build a portfolio or your practical work including photographs of your finished produce
Progression Opportunities/What can this course lead on to?
You may wish to progress into employment in restaurants, hotels or bakery outlets or choose self-employment. You may consider progressing onto further qualifications such as the Level 3 advanced diploma in patisserie and bakery or gaining further experiences in general cooking by progressing onto the professional cooking qualifications.

Are there any costs associated with this course?
As part of your Catering and Hospitality programme you will purchase your uniform for the restaurant (approximately £95). Costs are subject to change for the 2024 courses.
Facilities:
You will learn in our Centre of Excellence in Catering and Hospitality and will work in a newly refurbished and very popular restaurant Scholars. All practical sessions will help give you the practical skills, confidence and the overview of what the catering and hospitality industry can offer.
