What is this course about?
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (12 credits) will help you to develop some important practical teaching and assessing skills. It is ideal for individuals who are not currently teaching or training but who are already qualified in their intended teaching subject.
It also provides an introductory teaching qualification for new teachers, trainers and assessors. This course is specifically for individuals intending to teach in further education colleges, independent training providers, local authorities and voluntary organisations.
This is a 12-week course delivered over 3 hours per week.

Entry requirements?
English GCSE grade C/Grade 4 and above or Level 2 equivalent English qualification.
To aid future progression we strongly encourage all candidates to achieve their Level 2 maths if they wish to progress to the next level of study.
What will this course lead onto?
On successful completion of the programme, subject to meeting the full entry requirements, candidates can progress onto:
- Certificate in Education (PCET) – Level 5 (formerly known as DTLLS) – please refer to the entry requirements on our website for this course.
- Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PCET) – Level 7 Progression – please refer to the entry requirements on our website for this course.
Progression is also dependent upon your teaching role and responsibilities.

What will I learn on this course?
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training covers the basics of teaching in further education. Topics include: roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, inclusive approaches to teaching and learning, lesson planning, assessment, record keeping, use of resources, how to motivate learners, communication and questioning skills, legal requirements and the development of English, Maths and ICT skills.
How will I be assessed?
To pass the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training you will need to complete short written assignments and undertake a micro teach (teaching session) for other trainee teachers in your group and your tutor. These assignments will either be submitted using Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, therefore IT skills are essential.
