What is this course about?
This course will prepare you for the exciting career in bridal, fashion, T.V and Film makeup artistry. On the course you will learn make up techniques for the catwalk, photographic shoots, television and film, which includes special effects and prosthetics. Classes will consist of both 16-18 and adult students.

Entry Requirements:
Level 2 qualification in this area, plus working at Level 2 in English on our college assessment or a minimum GCSE grade C/4 or Level 2 English qualification (including reading and writing). You will also have a college admissions interview and a trade test.
What will this course lead on to?
You may wish to progress on Higher Educations level and degree level courses You may wish to pursue employment within the industry in a salon, photographic studios, TV, film, fashion houses, theatre or work as a free-lance artist or session stylist.
What will I learn on this course?
By demonstrations and practical activities, you will be able to: Style and fit postiche, create “avante – garde” fashion make up looks, apply camouflage make up, monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon, apply airbrush make up, complete fashion & photographic make up looks, create and apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps, design & apply face and body art and cut and style hair for performers. As part of this course you will also be required to work on English and Maths and complete an industry placement, as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to Higher Education.
How will I be assessed?
You will be carrying out practical assessments throughout the year with tutor observations. You will also be assessed on your theory knowledge through projects, assignments, and written examinations.

Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will need an advanced professional media makeup kit and a tunic (costs subject to change for 2023). You must also wear full length black trousers and a full black shoe. You will have to provide files etc. for your course work and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments. A payment scheme is available to help with the purchase of the kit .

Facilities:
At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have recently refurbished contemporary facilities, including three hairdressing salons, two beauty salons, two media make up studios and a nail studio. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
