Come and ‘Have a Go’ – Open Evening 9th March 2016

On Wednesday 9th March 5-7pm, Riverside College invites you to come to their Open Evening event and experience first hand some of the courses available, by having a go at lots of different practical activities on the night.

Make sure you get involved with all of the activities our curriculum teams have on offer:
 

Brickwork (Room EC4)

• View demonstrations of brick laying skills from current students
• Have a go at – mortar laying and brick buttering

 

Construction & Joinery (Room EC5)

• View joinery demonstrations from two current students
• Have a go at – sawing timber, making timber joints and various other joinery skills

 

Plumbing (Room EC6 & EC7)

• View plumbing demonstrations from two current students
• Have a go at – pipe cutting, pipe bending and push fit pipework

 

Electrical Installation (Room EC12)

• View electrical work demonstrations from two current students
• Have a go at – cutting cable and wiring a plug

 

Engineering (Room EC15)

• View our practical facilities in our Engineering Workshop
• Have a go at – virtual welding on our reality machine

 

Motor Vehicle (Room EC18)

• Enjoy a tour of the workshops, and receive advice and guidance
• See our student race team demonstrate our Formula Renault 2000 race car
• Have a go at – a ‘Pit-Stop Challenge’ and run a leader board

 

Business, IT & Games Design

• Interact with our Lego robots
• Have a go at – play ‘Space Defender’, ‘Lost in the Woods’, ‘The End’ and ‘Unlock’, games created by Riverside students
• Have a go at – The ‘Know Your Brands?’ challenge. See if you can really taste the difference

 

Catering and Hospitality

• View cookery demonstrations and enjoy a tour of our training kitchens and state of the art working Restaurant
• Have a go at – FREE food tasting in the restaurant; try our home made sweets and other delicious gourmet treats

 

Health & Social Care and Childcare

• View demonstrations, enjoy a tour of our new medical training ward facilities, and come and meet ‘Suzie’ our care patient
• Have a go at – Decorating an Easter egg and designing an Easter bonnet, and making play dough
• Have a go at – CPR and Heimlich Maneuver

 

Hair, Beauty, Nails & Media Make-up

• View hair, nail and make-up design demonstrations and view the hair and makeup show by Riverside students
• Enjoy a tour of our brand new salons and nail bar facilities
• Have a go at – special effects make up, hair-ups and nail art
