Riverside College Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2016
A week of events and promotions took place at Riverside College recently to raise awareness of apprenticeships, current vacancies, and student success stories. This was all in celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, an annual event which champions apprentices and the positive impact they have on businesses.
Riverside College currently offers apprenticeships in 20 different areas and has over 460 students enrolled onto apprenticeships courses with high profile employers; including the NHS, Everton FC, Widnes Vikings and GETRAG Ford Transmissions in Halewood. To highlight the importance of apprentices, these employers worked with the College to create a series of videos celebrating the success stories of many students and how apprenticeships have enhanced their businesses. The videos were posted via social media channels throughout the week, each one featuring a case study with an apprentice or employer at the workplace.
College staff and students appeared at the Apprenticeship Hub stage in Liverpool One over three eventful days to raise awareness of apprenticeship vacancies in different industries. Hair and Beauty students took to the stage on Tuesday, delivering a fashion show and makeup sessions. On Wednesday, catering staff provided cookery demonstrations and served up delicious canapés. On Thursday, Riverside staff provided support for Getrag, promoting six new prestigious apprenticeship vacancies with the company.
Riverside was also host to an employer’s breakfast event at the College’s Scholars Restaurant. The event was attended by local business leaders and featured four guest speakers; Jane Birch (NHS Apprenticeship Lead for Warrington & Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), Siobhan Saunders (Chair of Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Hub), Neil Maguire (Skills Funding Agency Employer and Delivery Services Manage) and Riverside College’s very own Marketing Apprentice, Millie Kilshaw, who stole the show with her inspiring talk of her experience as an apprentice.
Jayne Smith, Head of Skills and Enterprise at Riverside said, “Apprenticeships are a great way to start a career in many different industries. This year alone we have helped over 250 people into apprenticeships. National Apprenticeship Week 2016 has been a big success and we hope the events have encouraged others to consider an apprenticeship.”
