Riverside Apprentice on Target for Career Goals at Anfield

Thomas Keogh, a brickwork apprentice and student on the Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork at Riverside College, is enjoying the fantastic opportunity of working on the Anfield stadium expansion project.

Thomas, 22, gained an apprenticeship with Keith Walton Brickwork and has been working with the company for one year alongside studying at Riverside College. The company secured the contract to work on the Anfield stadium expansion project, which has given Thomas the opportunity to gain fantastic work experience on an important high profile project.

The former Saints Peter & Paul Catholic College pupil said, “I chose to do an apprenticeship at Riverside College so I could learn a trade while earning money at the same time. Being from Liverpool, I know first-hand how important Anfield stadium is for the city and to be able to work on a project as historical as the expansion is incredible. I’ve learned lots of new brickwork skills and have been able to help on a massive project.”

The expansion project will transform the Main Stand and the surrounding area, increasing the full stadium capacity to 54,000 and becoming one of the largest football stands in the country. The project aims to be complete during the 2016/17 season.

“I’m really enjoying my time at Riverside, the brickwork training facilities are great and there has been lots of support. I am aiming to progress onto the level 3 apprenticeship and then I hope to gain a full time job.”
