Fabulous Fresher’s Fair 2014 at Riverside College
The 2014 annual Fresher’s Fair took place earlier this month at Riverside College. The Fresher’s Fair was college’s opportunity to show students all of the exciting extra-curricular activities on offer to them.
Assortments of stands were set up in the College Centre Stage Theatre allowing students to sign up to an array of activities. There was a strong sport presence at the fair, with college offering such activities as table tennis, 5-a-side football, fencing classes, Zumba classes, netball and rugby.
Students could also sign up to take the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Awards with Bronze, Silver and Gold all being available.
First aid training, driving theory, peer mentoring, debating groups, IT skills, computer gaming and film clubs were also all on offer. Organisations including the Citizens Advice Bureau and National Citizen Service supported the event by making themselves available to provide students with support and advice.
Paula Mitchell, Programme Manager at Riverside College, said “It was brilliant to see students signing up for activities; it creates a great atmosphere and also gives them opportunities to develop skills outside the timetable.
“Enrichment plays a crucial part in college life, it is important that we have events like this so students realise what is on offer to them.”
