Celebrating the UK’s First Hydrogen Week 2023
Riverside College is one of the leading colleges for Hydrogen and the development of skills for this new industry in the Northwest region. Hydrogen is central to reaching net zero emissions, providing a low carbon fuel which will provide us all with a greener future.
It is predicted that more than 5,000 jobs will be created in the North West in this industry by 2025, and Riverside College is developing partnerships, courses, and facilities to ensure that we can provide the skills needed.
Thalia Bell, Deputy Principal at Riverside College said, “As part of the Strategic Development Fund Project, at Riverside College we are focusing on the hydrogen skills needs of the Liverpool City Region by developing new courses to upskill the current and future workforce.
“The college has worked with local employers to write a number of new hydrogen courses to be taught in conjunction with the newly built Hydrogen Practice Pipe Rig which is currently being installed at the College’s Engineering and Construction Centre, looking at both industrial and future commercial usage.
“The Hydrogen Practice Pipe Rig has been built to meet the current skills gap in hydrogen knowledge, maintenance, repair, installation and fabrication in a safe controlled environment.”
The North West Hydrogen Alliance (NWHA) has launched the UK’s first official Hydrogen Week this week, 13th – 19th February to promote and celebrate the role of Hydrogen in reaching net zero. As part of Hydrogen Week the college will be promoting the exciting new Hydrogen developments at the Riverside campus and getting students involved in a range of activities to develop their awareness of careers and future opportunities.
