What is this course about?
In the hairdressing and beauty studies pathway qualifications, this programme of study will be of interest if you wish to work within the make-up industry, such as fashion, photographic studios, makeup counters or study as preparation for the Level 3 Theatrical, Special effects or Media Makeup Artistry qualifications. The programme will give you a comprehensive coverage of various fashion photographic make-up techniques and hairdressing techniques. Classes will consist of both 16-18 and adult students.

Entry Requirements:
Level 1 qualification in beauty or hairdressing. Plus working at Level 1 in English on our college assessment or a minimum GCSE grade D/3 or Level I English qualification(including reading and writing). You will also have a college admissions interview.
What will this course lead on to?
You may wish to progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Make-up course, which includes prosthetics/special effects make up. This can lead onto higher education and degree level qualifications. You wish to pursue employment within the industry in photographic studios, TV, film, fashion or theatre or in a salon environment.
What will I learn on this course?
You will be involved in both practical and theory sessions to gain your qualification including: applying creative make-up and photographic make-up, body art design, lash & brow treatments, health & safety, The art of dressing short & long hair, basic hair colouring techniques, creating a fashion image based on a theme for a catwalk or photo shoot.
How will I be assessed?
You will be carrying out practical assessments with tutor observations throughout the year. You will also be assessed on your theory knowledge through assignments and projects or written tests after completion of each module.

Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will need a media makeup kit and tunic (TBC). You must also wear full length black trousers and a full black shoe. You will have to provide files etc. for your course work and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments. A payment scheme is available to help with the purchase of the kit

Facilities:
At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have refurbished contemporary facilities, including three hairdressing salons, two beauty salons ,two media make up studios and a nail salon. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
