What is this course about?
This course is for people who wish to work in a supervised role with children between birth and five years with knowledge of children up to seven years. You will go on placement and learn practical skills in the classroom to support your time on work experience.

The teaching team has current, up-to-date knowledge and experience in the Early Years sector and will be able to support your studies with real-life experiences to develop your practical skills to work with children. The course prepares you for employment in a nursery setting, onto a Level 3 Early Years Apprenticeship, or onto the T Level Early Years and Education. Successful completion of this course will give you the Licence to Practice in a nursery setting.
Entry Requirements:
4 GSCEs at Grade 9 – 3 including in English Language and Maths.
What will this course lead on to?
Successful completion of this qualification allows progression onto the T Level Early Years and Education (subject to achievement of GCSE English Language, Maths & Science Grade 4), or into employment in a nursery, classroom assistant, preschool assistant, or nanny.

What will I learn on this course?
The course is made up of a number of units that explore and develop your work with young people including:
- Role of the Early Years Practitioner
- Supporting children’s development
- Legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection, and welfare of children
- Support healthy lifestyles for children
- Support children’s positive behaviour
Placement is a compulsory aspect of the course and students will attend 2 days each week in a setting arranged by the placement co-ordinator. This aspect of the course ensures you are able to apply and practice the skills required to be successful in this industry.
How will I be assessed?
You will achieve the qualification by completing a range of assignments for each unit. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods; this could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE. You must also complete a minimum of 250 hours in placements, supported by our dedicated placement officer and assessors.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will need to purchase a T-Shirt to wear in College and placement (Polo T Shirt = £7.86, you can also purchase a hoodie = £15.54 hoodie and £17.94 zipped (subject to change))
Students will also be expected to organise a DBS, to enable them to attend placement – there is no cost for full-time 16 – 18 students on the course.
