What is this course about?
This course is designed for students who have a keen interest in Carpentry and Joinery and the Construction industry, enabling them to work to an advanced level in the industry of their chosen craft. The course will cover the following topics: information, quantities and communicating with others, building methods and construction technology, carry out first fixing operations, carry out second fixing, erect complex structural carcassing components, maintain non-structural and structural components and set up and use fixed and transportable machinery. You will be assessed by completion of practical tasks assessed by your tutor, the production of a portfolio and pass online Gola exams.

Entry Requirements:
Level 2 qualification in Carpentry and Joinery and a GCSE Grade 4 in English Language and Maths.
What will this course lead on to?
This course can gain you employment as a Joiner on a construction site. Some learners progress into higher education to study site management.

The College has a full enrichment programme and all learners are expected to make the most of their time with us. Some of these activities include various sports tournaments, table tennis, X-Box competitions, remote control model racing. There will also be various trips and visits throughout the year.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is carried out on all practical tasks throughout the year. Each practical task will result in a pass, merit or distinction grade depending on the quality of your work produced. You will also be assessed through online and paper-based theory exams at the end of each theory unit.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
Each learner will be required to purchase a Riverside College Hi Vis Polo shirt, Work trousers, safety boots, stationary equipment and a ring binder with note paper.
