Higher Education Students Honoured at Graduation
On Thursday 18th October, remarkable students from Riverside College’s Higher Education courses were celebrated at the annual Graduation Awards Ceremony.
Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of St Paul’s Church in Widnes, graduation certificates were presented on the night by College Principal Mary Murphy and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Margaret Horabin.
Special congratulations went to Foundation Degree in Education student Joanne Squire who was awarded ‘Staffordshire University Higher Education Student of the Year’ and to HND Computing student Robert Peel who was awarded ‘Higher Education Student of the Year for Pearson Programmes’.
Joanne was selected for the award after demonstrating strong commitment and dedication throughout her studies. Joanne’s tutor described her as a prime example of how hard work, a desire to learn and resilience can help overcome barriers to achieve great results. Joanne will now be progressing to the BA (Hons) in Education course at Riverside College.

Robert achieved a distinction grade overall on the course and is now studying Multimedia Computing at Liverpool John Moores University.
Helen London, Head of Teacher Development and Higher Education at Riverside College said, “It was an honour to celebrate the achievements of our Higher Education students at this wonderful event. I am very proud of all of our students graduating this year; they really deserve it after working very hard throughout their studies to achieve their qualifications.
“There are so many reasons to choose Riverside College for Higher Education courses and it is wonderful to see so many students choosing to stay local to obtain their HND, HNC, foundation degree, and full honours degrees with us.”
