Higher Education Graduation 2017
Higher Education Students Honoured at Graduation
On Wednesday 18th October, remarkable students from Riverside College’s Higher Education courses were celebrated at the annual Graduation Awards Ceremony.
Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of St Paul’s Church in Widnes, over 40 awards were presented on the night by College Principal Mary Murphy and Chair of Governors Wesley Rourke.
Special congratulations went to Foundation Degree Counselling student Myke Richardson Hughes who was awarded ‘Staffordshire University HE Student of the Year’ and to HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering student Stuart Berry who was awarded ‘HE Student of the Year for Pearson Programmes’.
Myke Richardson Hughes was selected after absorbing himself in every aspect of learning over the last 5 years at Riverside College, including being the voice for students as a student representative. He has recently set up his own Counselling business in Widnes allowing individuals to access counselling locally. In addition, he has also gained full time employment as a counsellor and is making a positive difference to many lives. Myke is now continuing his studies to gain a BSc Hons in Counselling at Riverside College.
Stuart Berry’s journey began in 2013 when he enrolled onto the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Maintenance at Riverside College. Stuart joined Runcorn engineering company Sigmatex in September 2013 as an apprentice and after completing his HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Riverside, is now a fully qualified Maintenance Engineer with two apprentices working alongside him. Stuart is a fantastic ambassador for both apprenticeship programmes and Higher Education.
Helen London, Head of Teacher Development and Higher Education at Riverside College said, “I am extremely proud of all of our students graduating this year; they have worked very hard throughout their studies to achieve their qualifications. It was an honour to celebrate the achievements of our Higher Education students at this truly prestigious event.
“There are so many reasons to choose Riverside College for Higher Education courses and it is wonderful to see so many students choosing to stay local to obtain their HND, HNC, foundation degree, and full honours degrees with us.”
